History

Dr. Wild & Co. AG was founded in 1932 by Dr Samuel Wild and Werner Wild as an independent and self-supporting company, which it still is. At the time, it was a great challenge to take up the development, manufacture and quality control of medicines. Until the end of the second World War, the main market was Switzerland.

In the 1940ies a whole range of dental care products was developed and manufactured thanks to a close and fruitful collaboration with dental universities and physicians. During this pioneering work, Dr Wild succeeded in adding therapeutically active ingredients to toothpastes, mouthwashes, gingival pastes and gels.

The first products to appear on the market were the EMOFORM® medicated toothpastes, which are famous today in more than 50 countries worldwide. In the course of time, new products were developed like EMOFRESH®, GINVAPAST® and DEPURDENT®. Dr Wild also took over from Roche Consumer Health the worldwide distribution of DEAFTOL® mouthspray and tablets for the treatment of aphthae, inflammation of the oral mucosa and denture pressure spots.

Recently Dr Wild’s dental research department succeeded in stabilising the efficacious and clinically well-documented stannous-II-fluoride for treating sensitive toothnecks, irritated gums and as prophylaxis of enamel and dentine caries. Consequently EMOFLUOR® GEL was launched on the market in 1997 followed by the EMOFLUOR® toothpaste in 1999. To complete the EMOFORM® programme special aids were developed for cleaning interdental spaces and for brushing and flossing under bridges and orthodontic appliances, around toothnecks and implants.

The EMOFLUOR® oral moisturizer is a gel, which was developped and tested at the Clinic for Preventive Dentistry, Peridontology and Cariology at the University of Zurich. The EMOFLUOR® oral moisturizer provides lasting humidity in cases of dry mouth and protects against caries.

The tea tree leaves have been used for their antimicrobial properties for several thousand years by the Bundjabung aborigines of Australia. Dr Wild's Dental Research Department has developped TEBODONT® Gel, Spray, Mouthrinse, Toothpaste and Dental floss, all containing tea tree oil extracted from the Australian tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia). The antimicrobial, fungicidal and antiseptic properties in dental and oral care have been assessed in many clinical studies at Dental University Institutes in Switzerland and abroad.

Dr Wild’s dental research department will continue to develop innovative products, that meet the requirements of dental and oral care.
